I am pianist with a a piano teaching diploma from the ABRSM, a music degree and a Masters in Music, Technology and Innovation.
I have a CRB/DBS check and I am also a member of the Musicians Union and have public liability insurance.
I teach mostly from home in Great Glen and do peripatetic teaching at several schools in Leicester.
I have over ten years experience in teaching both children and adult beginners and intermediate students. I teach age levels ranging from six to seventy and I can assure you it is never to late to learn!
Whilst following a ‘Simultaneous Learning’ curriculum as developed by international music educator Paul Harris, in order that you or your child can integrate music theory, improvisation and composition with practice and develop correct playing techniques, I will also try to tailor to you or your child’s needs and wishes. For example, I have a number of pupils who are learning pieces from The Greatest Showman, at varying levels of difficulty suitable for their standard of playing. I teach ABRSM syllabus grades for those who wish to take this route, although this is not a curriculum in itself. So whether you or your child wish to learn classical, contemporary or jazz piano, or to explore music technology through using a keyboard or even just a computer and mouse, I can help.
Having positive communication with parents is important, and I will always be happy to give feedback on your child’s progress and make suggestions for practising, books etc.
One of my students has gone on to study at the acclaimed Chethams School of Music in Manchester (see her testimonial on my testimonials page) and many other of my students who have been with me for a number of years, are developing their skills from beginner to intermediate levels, gaining confidence and mastery of the piano.
Having researched and composed experimental music and also being a singer/songwriter and performer of contemporary folk music, plus a jazz singer, I encourage students to be creative with their own musical ideas and compositions and to keep an open mind on the myriad approaches to musical expression.
