Serena Alexander - Creative Approaches to Music Theory & Practice

I am pianist with a a piano teaching diploma from the ABRSM, a music degree and a Masters in Music, Technology and Innovation.

I have an enhanced CRB check and I am also a member of the Musicians Union and have public liability insurance.

I teach mostly from home in Great Glen and do some peripatetic teaching at homes in the Stoneygate/Clarendon park area. I also teach at several schools in Leicester.

I have several years experience in teaching both children and adult beginners and intermediate students. I teach age levels ranging from six to sixty and I can assure you it is never to late to learn! I teach both ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall exams for those pupils wishing to take this route.

I tailor lessons to individual needs, so whether you, or your child wish to learn classical, contemporary or jazz piano, or to explore music technology through using a keyboard or even just a computer and mouse, I can help.

During lessons I encourage students to learn to play tunes of their choice, whilst also following a structured programme, in order that they can integrate music theory, improvisation and composition with their practice and develop correct playing techniques.

One of my students has recently gone on to study at the acclaimed Chethams School of Music in Manchester  (see her testimonial on my testimonials page) and many other of my students are developing their skills from beginner to intermediate levels, gaining confidence and mastery of the piano.

Having researched and composed experimental music and also being a singer/songwriter and active performer of contemporary folk music, I encourage students to be creative with their own musical ideas and compositions and to keep an open mind on the myriad approaches to musical expression.
